Nathan P. Snyder, Conductor
Nathan P. Snyder received his appointment as conductor of the Merion Concert Band in February 2010. He is a graduate of Susquehanna University where he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree, cum laude. While at Susquehanna, Mr. Snyder studied clarinet and conducting under Valerie Martin, including an independent study in which he focused on chamber music. He has completed further training in conducting at Northwestern University and the University of North Texas with Mallory Thompson, Eugene Corporon and Craig Kirchoff.
Mr. Snyder previously served on the faculty of the William Penn School District, where he taught seventh through ninth grade concert and jazz bands, and the Gurnee School District in Illinois where he taught third through fifth grade music and directed the fifth grade musical. He has conducting experience with all levels of bands from elementary through collegiate and beyond. Mr. Snyder also enjoys clarinet performance, giving numerous recitals and playing with various ensembles including the famed Northshore Concert Band, Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Wind Symphony, Williamsport Symphony and the Montgomery County Concert Band. His private clarinet students have achieved state honor band and solo status and many have gone on to study music in college.
Mr. Snyder is a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lansdale where he directs the church instrumental ensemble and is the co-organizer of the annual “Music for Manna” benefit recital. Mr. Snyder resides in Blue Bell with his wife and daughter. He is currently a proud stay-at-home dad, and the family will be welcoming a second daughter in late April.
